SDC Minutes The meeting was called to order by President Gerry Goodrich at the Polebarn at1:06 p.m. Gerry and the club gave a big thank you to Stephen Cade for hosting the meeting, to Gerald and Sue Tucker for a week long scrubbing of the property and to Jerry Fairchild and Ronnie Williams for cooking a most delicious meal. The breakfast sausages were scrumptious and the chicken was so tender that it fell off the bone. If you missed this years’ annual Polebarn cookout, you won’t want to miss it next year. There were at least 35 people in attendance including many guests and we welcome our newest club member, Glenn Tappan. Old Business: T-shirts, hats, and visors from the State Meet are on sale ($5 for shirts, $7 for visors and $10 for hats. Martha will bring them to all meetings until they are sold. The Cairo, Mother’s Day weekend Car Show and gaslight parade will begin on Friday, May 7th. Those at the meeting who plan to attend are Gerald and Sue Tucker and Orva Kaufmann. Pat and John Meinelt will also attend. If you plan to join them, call John for information on when and where to meet the caravan. They will drive from Deland to Cairo on backroads only. John’s phone numbers are: xxx-xxx-xxxx (home) and xxx-xxx-xxxx (cell). The Cairo car show is very relaxing, very entertaining and time well spent. Hope some of you can make it! New Business: No one at the meeting plans to attend the International SDC Meet in Arizona this year, so we will not have a club meeting in May. Our next meeting is in Orlando at the home of Michael and Ronda Scarabino for their annual pig roast. It will be held on June 19th. Details to follow. Gerry and Carol Goodrich will be leaving soon on a six month road trip to Chicken, Alaska and back. They will be driving their new red Champ and camping along the way. Carol hopes to be able to send out newsletters from the road. Orva gave the Treasurer’s Report. We now have $xx.xx in our account. Stephen gave an update on our club’s adopted charity, American Hometown Veteran’s Assist. Most requests are small - house repairs, light bills, a months rent… But in the last month, the charity was able to purchase a single wide mobile home for a Vietnam Veteran whose home was burned down by local boys. They also put in a well and were able to furnish the home due to donations from Walker Furniture and Simmon’s Bedding. Gerry and Stephen said all the Veterans they help are extremely grateful for the help they receive. The Vietnam Vet is a furniture maker by trade and will donate some of his pieces to the next Fundraising Banquet and Auction. The charity will also have a garage sale on May 24th at the home of Pete Herrick in Fort White. Pete is a disabled Vet who started the charity a few years ago. Don and Edith Fifer’s grandson Steven is graduating from the Citadel on May 7th. Steven has already done a tour in the Middle East. Congratulations Stephen and safe travels to Don and Edith who will attend his graduation ceremony. Stephen Cade’s son Bobby has been deployed again, this time to Qatar where he is assigned to a security detail. Please keep both of our soldiers in your prayers! The meeting was adjourned at 1:21 p.m. Chris Taylor won the 50/50 and promptly donated his winnings to our club’s charity. Thank you Chris!!!
