Message From the President

What a great start to 2009! The January meeting was held at John & Pat Meinelt’s home. So much “stuff” to snoop through in the garages…plus Pat’s unequaled hospitality…and being able to see and talk with many wonderful club members makes for a near perfect day. Our attendance was good but we can do much better. The participation in the planning for the State Meet in October as well as our club adopting the American Hometown Veterans Association are the kind of things to be proud of.

We have two events this month. The first one is on February 14th, Valentines Day, at the home of Bob & Jacquie Potter in Morriston. The second is on February 21st at The Villages, where our Studebakers will be featured at the monthly cruise in, hosted by Jerry and Katherine Fairchild.
Looking forward to seeing everyone this month!…Gerry

Minutes of January 10th Meeting

Incoming President Gerry Goodrich called the meeting to order at the home of John and Pat Meinelt and thanked them for being our gracious hosts. Nineteen members were present, as well as Don and Betty Hendrickson of Gladstone, MI, guests of George and Georgia Matt.

Treasurer’s Report was given and accepted.

Old Business:
Distribution of January newsletter, which contained the minutes of our December 6 meeting. Minutes were approved.
President announced the Officers for 2009 as listed in the newsletter and thanked Michael Scarabino for his committed leadership as past president.

Review of our newsletter’s 2009 Calendar of Events—our February 14 meeting will take place at the home of Robert and Jacquie Potter in Morriston, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Bring your favorite dish to share. President Gerry explained that our event scheduled for August at Rainbow River has not yet been finalized.

Jerry Fairchild issued an invitation to The Villages Monthly Car Cruise In on Saturday, February 21. We will meet in the parking lot by 2:00 PM and enter as a group at 2:15 PM. Jerry has made the preliminary plans but will need to give them a count one week before the Cruise In. We can let Jerry know at our February 14 meeting. He distributed a detailed map of The Villages to all.

Florida State Meet in Deland:
John Meinelt and Martha Cade are our Co-Chairs.
Dates are October 30, 31, and November 1 at the Holiday Inn on Route 92, International Speedway, in Deland. John has signed the contract and we will visit the site after our business meeting today. Rooms will be available for $69.00.
Theme for the meet is Halloween.

Martha Cade had paperwork from our last State and Zone meets and the following were discussed:
Registration: Orva Kaufmann had volunteered to do registration along with Edith Fifer. Others are needed for shorter intervals during Friday and Saturday. Martha and Danny will do a mock up of the registration form. It was suggested that on the flyer we ask persons to check if they are interested in a short tour on Sunday—perhaps a Sunday brunch type tour before heading home.

Flyers: The postcard used by the Central FL Chapter for the last FL State Meet was passed out. After discussion it was decided that we could use this form of announcement early, mailing the postcard in May. Detailed flyers to be sent out in August. Martha had a “Halloween” Studebaker picture and she will contact Rick Courtier to see if he will help us.

Hospitality Room: Pat Meinelt volunteered to Chair. We will have an adjoining room in the hotel to use. Stephen Cade will provide the lunch on Saturday.

Trophies/Dash Plaques/Tee Shirts: Stephen Cade will check to see how many wooden trophies we have from the last meet. One idea presented by Edith Fifer was to have any member who wishes their car to be considered for the dash plaque and tee shirt to put their name in the hat and the drawing will be at the next meeting.

Door Prizes/Goodie Bags: George Matt will be in charge of the collection of door prizes. All members were asked to donate door prizes for both males and females. George will visit some of the auto retailers for contributions. After discussion it was decided not to have goodie bags but to hand out the dash plaques, banquet tickets, etc., at
registration.

Judging: Stephen Cade volunteered to head up judging. At the meet judging will be according to classes of SDC although there was some discussion of “People’s Choice.”

Decorations: Carol Goodrich will be in charge of Banquet Decorations. The club has almost all needed decorations.
Brochures/Signs: Martha Cade and Danny Thomas will work on brochures and contact Rick Courtier for his assistance.

Media: John Meinelt will contact those in the Deland area.
Banquet: John explained the menu and the cost will be $21.99 with 19% gratuity and tax—a figure of approximately $26.00. It was decided that our present president, Jerry Goodrich, will be Master of Ceremonies with special guest speakers.

Help with the State Meet: the Orlando Chapter has offered to help us with our State Meet.

Distribution of Flyer to SE Chapters: Edith Fifer has been in contact with Wayne Lee (who replaced Gordon Sheldon as our Zone Coordinator) and understands that he can distribute our flyer to all SE Chapters outside FL. This would be a big saving in paperwork and postage.

Our Website: Although our website is not presently updated, Danny Thomas has volunteered to continue as Web Master and resurrect our site if the Club so chooses. Motion was made and passed to keep Danny Thomas as Web Master and keep the site updated. Payment needs to be made to Danny.

New Business:
Support of Community Charities: President Gerry Goodrich made a motion for the NC Chapter to adopt a charity to support in the community. Motion was seconded by Carol Goodrich and passed unanimously. Stephen Cade spoke about a charity he is involved in—American Home Town Veterans Association. Motion was made by Stephen Cade, seconded by George Matt, that we adopt this charity.

John Meinelt invited all to caravan to Cairo, GA, May 8 through 10. He outlined all the activities that occur this special weekend.

Meeting was adjourned with a reminder that 2009 dues are to be paid to Orva. George Matt just turned 75 and now joins the elite of those who are life members.

50/50 raffle was won by Derwood Thompson.
